FPE was hired to create a contemporary lobby atmosphere as well as a more dignified building entrance visible from Sixth Avenue. The building is set back from the street by a plaza dominated by the entrance to the Hard Rock Cafe. We ‘connected’ the exterior and interior, necessary to increase the building’s street presence, by creating a field of overlapping grids mimicking the gridded curtain wall on the exterior. A bronze and glass canopy containing direct and indirect lighting extending from the street to the elevator vestibule is mirrored in the granite and limestone slab floor.
