Though well-sited across from Union Square, the lobby in this commercial office building lacked spatial presence. Undersized and unattractive, there was little space between the entry and the elevator bank, resulting in a claustrophobic effect. FPE addressed this challenge by creating richly detailed finish surfaces, including terrazzo flooring, prefabricated concrete panels, wood panels, perforated metal mesh panels, and steel channels. The completed environment is richly detailed and dramatic, diverting attention away from the lobby’s small size.
