Working closely with Gap Design and Callison Architecture, FPE renovated and more than tripled the floor area of this existing Gap location. The project introduced a new Gap design standard, featuring a modular series of prefabricated aluminium ceiling panels. The scope of work included the creation of a two-story entrance atrium with monumental stairs, elevators, and an interior cooling tower. The project exterior was approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The new storefronts and stucco facade were designed as a neutral complement to the historic Knickerbocker Hotel’s original architectural detailing.
